Split or Hvar for a Hen Trip?

A hen trip is short, everyone lands separately and one person is holding all of it, so the base decides more here than on any other week.

September 9, 2026 Split or Hvar hen do

A hen trip is the one holiday on this coast where the base decides the trip rather than colours it. The group is short of nights, everyone lands on a different flight, and one person holds it together from another country. Split and Hvar answer that differently, and Trogir is answered here too. If the trip is really a week, the general version is Split or Hvar, where to base your week.

Split or Hvar for a hen trip: what is the short answer?

Split if the group is arriving in pieces and wants to walk home. Hvar if it can land together, stop moving, and let the island be the event.

What decides itSplitHvar
Group sizeA villa belt from Podstrana to Čiovo, so more big housesPool houses cluster above Hvar town, a narrower list at ten beds
NightsThe one house priced here taking three nights in high summer is inside SplitThe shortest island stay found was four nights in July and August
NightlifeAwake at two, with something else to do when one person is finishedThe only late evening on the islands, and a pedestrianised core
Boat dayThe widest range, thirty to ninety minutes off before you startThe Pakleni Islands about fifteen minutes off the quay
ArrivalA drive from the airport, on nobody’s timetableFifty minutes to an hour by catamaran, foot passengers only
Budget shapeCheaper on accommodation, restaurants, taxis and groceriesThe most expensive square kilometre in Dalmatia in August

Read the arrival row first: it is the only line you cannot fix once everyone is on the ground.

What does the crossing do to a hen weekend?

More than it does to a week, because a weekend has fewer days to absorb it.

The catamaran runs Split to Hvar town in fifty minutes to an hour and carries foot passengers only, so twelve people carry the cases and the decorations up the gangway themselves. The car ferry takes 120 minutes and lands at Stari Grad on the north shore, twenty minutes over the ridge from Hvar town: a good way to bring a car, a poor way to arrive on a Friday evening.

The group is also only as early as its last flight, and the timetable does not wait, so one delay means a night in Split first or a private boat for the stragglers, which is set out on the Hvar bachelorette page.

Nights decide the rest. On three the crossing bites into two of them; on five it stops mattering. So count the arrivals first: if the group lands across more than about four hours on the Friday, solve the crossing before you pick the town.

Which base has the villas that will take a hen group?

This is where a hen trip stops behaving like any other villa booking. Among the house rules read in September 2026, one bans all parties and events regardless of numbers, and two others say large gatherings are not allowed. None names a hen group, because the clause already covers it, and a listing silent on parties is not permission.

What counts is the owner’s written yes for your group before money moves, which is why a hen shortlist takes longer to build than a family one. When to book a villa in Croatia has the rest of it.

The houses themselves sit differently. On the Split side the belt runs through Podstrana, Kaštela, Trogir and Čiovo, a drive from the city rather than a crossing. On Hvar the pool houses are on the slope above Hvar town and in the fields behind Jelsa and Stari Grad, while inside the old town it is mostly stone houses with no pool and no parking, the opposite of what most groups picture.

Put the occasion in the first line of your first message. It decides which houses can be asked at all.

What about Trogir for a hen party?

Trogir is 27 kilometres west of Split and about five from the airport, the shortest arrival on the coast. The villa belt is not in Trogir but on Čiovo across the bridge, and from Okrug the tourist board puts Trogir old town at a twenty minute walk. Split’s evening stays reachable: Promet Split line 37 runs Split, the airport and Trogir, with the last bus out of Split at a quarter past midnight, and a driver covers later than that.

So Trogir beats Split when the flights are tight, the trip is short, and the house matters more than walking home. It loses when everyone wants to fall out of the front door into the night, because outside the Okrug end the evening is a drive, and when the dates are Thursday to Sunday, because the Čiovo house we priced held seven nights with Saturday arrivals only across July and August.

If the house matters more than the walk, ask about the Čiovo belt and put your arrival day in the first line, because here the day can be as fixed as the length.

Which suits the night out, and which the day on the water?

The night out is Hvar town. It is the only late evening on the islands, and the pedestrianised core keeps the whole evening on foot inside a few hundred metres. Split’s version is different rather than smaller: a city that works late, with enough else on that the friend who is finished at eleven still has a weekend.

The day on the water is Hvar too. The Pakleni Islands are about fifteen minutes off, so the day starts in the water rather than an hour from it, and a second one stays plausible. From Split most good water is thirty to ninety minutes away before anything begins, and range is the compensation. Both shapes sit on private boat tours from Hvar. Wherever you sail from, most private day boats here cap at twelve guests, so group size changes the plan more than the base does.

Decide which day the group will still be talking about in a year, then let it pick the town.

How many nights, and when do you book?

From June to September most houses on this coast are let for five to seven nights, and three night stays are scarce in July and August. Of the houses priced in September 2026, exactly one took three nights in high summer, and it sits inside Split rather than out at the water with a garden. The Hvar equivalent was an old town house on four nights in July and August, three either side. Both are town houses, so no pool and neighbours through the wall.

A Thursday to Sunday hen weekend in August is therefore a handful of houses rather than a search. Five nights reopens most of the coast, and moving out of the first fortnight of August does more again. The best houses go six to twelve months out, and for a big celebration the published advice is at least a year. Booking later shortens the list, not the rate.

If the weekend cannot stretch past three nights, say so in your first line and say which nights could move.

What do we arrange, and what do the hen pages cover?

Plainly: we hold no villas. We find the house, shortlist two or three that will take your group with the total for your nights, and you book the one you choose with the villa’s own booking office at its published rate. Around it we run the boat day, the chef night, the tables and the drivers meeting the flights, held by one person, so nobody is relaying changes to five businesses in two languages.

What we do not do is design the celebration. The games, the surprise and the speech are the point of the trip, and they are yours.

The detail lives on the two pages built for it. The Split bachelorette carries the group size and boat arithmetic, the per person costs and the mainland villa question; the Hvar page carries the three day shape, the Pakleni day and the island version of the same budget. Read whichever you are leaning towards before you write, and it halves the questions in your first message.

What should you send us?

The dates or the month, how many nights and whether they can move, how many are coming, whether the villa is booked yet, and the one thing the trip has to include. Say the occasion in the first line, because a hen group changes which houses can be asked.

We come back with two or three houses that will take the group, each with the total for your nights, the minimum stay and the changeover day, and a costed day by day plan for the boat, the chef, the tables and the drivers.

Request villa options on find a villa, then read the Split bachelorette or the Hvar bachelorette for the base you are leaning towards.

FAQ

Guide questions

Split or Hvar for a hen do?

Split if the group is landing on separate flights, wants to walk home from the evening and has three or four nights. Hvar if the point of the trip is the island, the water and one big night out, and the group can arrive together. The crossing is what separates them: a short weekend feels it, a five night trip barely notices.

Is Trogir good for a hen party?

For a house, often yes. Trogir is 27 kilometres west of Split and about five from the airport, which is the shortest arrival on this coast, and the villa belt sits on Čiovo across the bridge. From Okrug the tourist board puts Trogir old town at a twenty minute walk, and Promet Split line 37 runs Split, the airport and Trogir with the last bus out of Split at a quarter past midnight. What it is not is a hen weekend base for anyone who wants to walk out of the villa into a night out, and the Čiovo house we priced held seven nights with Saturday arrivals only in July and August.

Can you find a villa that accepts a hen group?

Yes, and it is a shorter and slower list than a family one. Published house rules on this coast frequently ban parties and events outright, or say that large gatherings are not allowed, and a listing that is silent on parties is not permission. We shortlist two or three houses whose owner has said yes to your group in writing, each with the total for your nights, and you book the one you choose with the villa's own booking office at its published rate.

How many nights does a hen villa need in summer?

Five to seven from June to September for most houses of any size. Three night stays are scarce in July and August: of the houses priced on this coast in September 2026, exactly one took three nights in high summer and it sits inside Split rather than out at the water, and the shortest stay found on Hvar was an old town house on four nights in July and August, three either side. Five nights reopens most of the coast.

Which is cheaper for a hen trip, Split or Hvar?

Split, on almost every line: accommodation, restaurants, taxis and groceries. Hvar town in August is the most expensive square kilometre in Dalmatia. The arranged pieces cost broadly the same wherever the group sleeps, and the per person bands for each base sit on the Split bachelorette and Hvar bachelorette pages.

Do you plan the whole hen trip?

We find the house, then run the week around it: the boat day, the chef night at the villa, the tables and the drivers meeting the flights, held by one person so the organiser is not chasing five businesses in two languages. What we do not touch is the celebration itself. The games, the surprise and the speech belong to the group.
